The MayDay PAC
A common rationale for steadily declining voter turnout is that people don’t feel their votes count, that democracy is bought and sold by a small group of powerful, monied interests. This is especially true following the recent Citizen’s United vs. Federal Election Commission ruling by the US Supreme Court.
The MayDay PAC was started by Lawrence Lessig, professor of law at Harvard and noted political activist. MayDay is a political action committee created for the sole purpose of ending political action committees.
Go to their web page and see for yourself, but the basic plan is to elect a number of representatives to Congress in the 2016 election running on a platform to reform campaign finance.
Lessig’s campaign is a brilliant example of using the power of crowdsourcing and crowdfunding to affect the democratic process.
